"Seeing Through" utilizes light as a medium of revelation. The creation process involves a deliberate ethical refusal: rather than reproducing the violent spectacle of suicide victims found in news reports, I employed digital illustration to extract only their silhouettes.
Inspired by the sacred luminosity of ecclesiastical stained glass, I translated these digital outlines into translucent acrylic. This act of transmutation elevates tragic figures from mere news data into a state of "secular sanctity"—light passes through them not to expose their death, but to illuminate their presence. The work critiques China's education system, where lives are compressed into calculable exam data. Within these "regimes of measurement," individuality is abstracted into numerical performance. Suspended in layers, the figures hang between visibility and disappearance. As light passes through, the solid material melts into color, and the absent lives return momentarily as glowing silhouettes.
